My first solo flight!

Ever since my first trip to Rio back in 2003, I have dreamt of paragliding over Rio, and this past weekend my dream came true!  After nearly 6 months of training, I made my first big solo jump from Pedra Bonita.  For those of you that saw the animated film ‘Rio,’ this is the exact same launch point, which was animated for the film.  Now, it’s time for the Swiss Alps, then Tibet!

September in Rio!

Incredible!  The other day I was reflecting on my life here in Rio, as I was stretching on a rock overlooking Ipanema Beach, and the following feeling rose within me…

I am having so much freakin’ fun and I have the life I have always dreamed of, AND all of this only occurs because I’m not afraid to dream and manifest all that inspires me.  I am truly grateful for this gift and power.  I am having the time of my life, AND AND…

Each day keeps getting better and better.  I’m so sure of it that I can’t wait to reflect on the next batch of pictures I share with you all!

Guys, thanks for your love & support!  I feel it and it’s so great to be able to share and be inspired by you all.

Much love!

Ryan!

My first speech in Portuguese (kind of)!

This is hilarious!

I have never been much of a public speaker, as I feel like a dear in headlights when I’m infront of a crowd trying to remember what I wanted to say.  But I couldn’t resist this opportunity…

A few weeks back my buddy Charles offered me entry into a race he was producing for Samsung in Rio.  Being that I’m an avid runner and love competitive environments, I jumped at the opportunity.

The night before the race, Charles asked me if I would like to offer some words to the crowd, as the race took place on Sept. 11, 2011, the 10 year anniversary of  the horrific events in New York for which I whiteness closely.

On 4 hours of sleep, I had no time to prepare my thoughts except during the actual race.  Then, at the award ceremony, I was invited to step on stage.  While I opened in Portuguese, thankfully my dear friend Jorge Pacheco joined me to translate.  In the beginning, I was a stuttering machine, stumbling over each word, but finally, I hit my rhythm.

I spoke about the power that is created when we come together around a focused action, wether a horrific event like 9/11, a race or the rise of a nation.  I took the opportunity to encourage people to work together to sieze this great opportunity for Brazil at this time.

As it often is, my words were a bit sentamental and ‘mushy,’ which is probably why the recording above cut 90% of my talk!  Oh well, you had to be there, but I still share…with you all!

Many hugs!

Ryan
